Failure mechanisms of corrugated sandwich panels under transverse three-point bending

The failure mechanism of corrugated sandwich panels under three-point bending is investigated experimentally and numerically using ABAQUS/Standard. Three dominant modes failure, viz. face buckling, yielding core previously reported by others, were also identified here they found to be affected the face-sheet thickness, height corrugation angle panel. It will shown that deformation map, regime boundaries, theoretically predicted Valdevit et al. are valid only for restricted cases when indenter support pins simultaneously located at a vertex; their prediction breaks down if this condition not met alternative maps developed here. nose shape (flat cylindrical), size location indentation – these others play significant role on mode panel subsequently develops.
